If you happen to live in the Collegedale-Ooltewah area you are invited to join with other service minded men, friends, and family to help clear the Samaritan Center loading dock on the 3rd Saturday night of every month. Those that help out always have a fun time taking the donated “trash and treasures” of the community into the sorting warehouse. If you’d like to join us here’s what you need to know…
About the Samaritan Center
The Samaritan Center is a nonprofit social service agency that meets the basic physical, social, and spiritual needs of the people in our community using the ministry of Jesus as their model. This is accomplished by providing emergency financial and material assistance with rent, utilities, food, clothing, furniture, school supplies, and much more. Why Help Out?
Their thrift store recieves donations ranging from furniture to clothing every day that must be brought into the warehouse and sorted. From Friday sundown till Saturday sundown, in observance of the 7th-day Sabbath, all donations that come in from the community pile up on the covered loading dock. And boy do things pile up! And that’s why we need volunteers to help move things inside out of the weather.
What We Do
Volunteers are invited to show up at the Samaritan Center loading dock about 15-minutes after sundown and start working with our crew of volunteers. If you’ve never helped out before there will be others to direct you. All donations are sorted according to whether it is bagged clothes, loose clothes, toys, bedding, shoes, handbags, caps, electronics, and miscellaneous.
How to Prepare
Time Expected: Show up on time (15-minutes after sundown) and stay till the work is done.
What to Wear: Comfortable shoes, work clothes, work gloves
Bring: Water, a positive attitude, and friends!
