The Ultimate Purpose of Freedom
By Chaplain Jorge Torres
Freedom FOR…
In today’s world, freedom is often misunderstood as the ability to do whatever we want. But true freedom, as described in the Bible, is about living for the glory of God. As Christian men, our God-given freedom calls us to honor Him in all we do. This is our ultimate purpose.
Understanding True Freedom
The Bible teaches us that true freedom is found in Christ. Galatians 5:1 says, “For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.” This freedom means living a life that honors God, liberated from sin and death.
Romans 6:22 reminds us, “But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the fruit you get leads to sanctification and its end, eternal life.” Our freedom from sin allows us to live for God’s glory.
Freedom to Serve
We use our freedom for God’s glory by serving others. Galatians 5:13 tells us, “For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.” Service is a tangible way to show God’s love.
As an Army Chaplain, I witness the power of service daily. Whether providing religious support to Soldiers or supporting their Families, serving others is a profound expression of our faith and freedom in Christ.
Freedom to Witness
Our freedom in Christ empowers us to be bold witnesses of the Gospel. Acts 1:8 says, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” Sharing the good news of Jesus Christ is a powerful way to use our freedom for God’s glory.
In the military, I have countless opportunities to live out the Gospel. Our freedom in Christ gives us the courage to live out love, even in challenging circumstances.
Freedom to Grow
Our freedom in Christ calls us to grow in our relationship with Him. 2 Peter 3:18 encourages us to “…grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.” Spiritual growth requires dedication and intentionality.
We grow in faith by spending time in God’s Word, praying, and being part of a community of believers. As we deepen our relationship with God, we become better equipped to live out our purpose and use our freedom for His glory.
Conclusion
Freedom FOR… God’s glory is the ultimate purpose of our lives. As Christian men, we are called to serve others, witness boldly, and grow in our relationship with Christ. Let us embrace this freedom and live out our calling with passion and dedication, bringing honor and glory to God in all that we do.
1 Corinthians 10:31 reminds us, “So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” Let this be our guiding principle as we use our freedom for His glory.
Fellow brothers and warriors, let’s live in freedom every day, for God’s glory!
