SUMMARY:Ministry Leadership Expedition
DESCRIPTION:Greetings Ministry Leader\,\nLong ago John Muir proclaimed… “The mountains are calling\, and I must go.”  And while I wholeheartedly agree with Muir\, I more deeply sense that we are all responding to the “Still Small Voice”\, the heart of God calling us upward to high places\, or in this case downward to low places! \nThrough the wilderness Moses\, Elijah\, and Jesus were taught and tested by God so it is only natural that we as ministry leaders should journey into the wilderness to see what he might be wanting to teach us! \nThe Ministry Leadership Expedition is an immersive wilderness experience for ministry leaders that is designed to stretch the mind\, elevate the spirit\, strengthen the heart\, challenge the body\, and rest the soul.  Participants should anticipate the physical challenges of backcountry travel with a group of up to a dozen individuals into a remote wilderness setting in the Grand Canyon where ministry leadership skills will be taught\, demonstrated\, and applied through outdoor skills and experiences. \n\nEXPEDITION OVERVIEW: \nThe basic details of this expedition are listed below. Ed \nMarty is a veteran educator\, outdoor professional\, and a leader of men.  He is the founder and president of Blueprint for Men that provides this experience for you as a ministry leader.  Marty is gifted at discovering and sharing spiritual lessons from nature and has skills and certifications ranging from Wilderness First Responder to Leave No Trace Master Educator. Marty and his wife\, Gale\, are the proud parents of two adult children and four grandchildren. Life is good! \n  \nDoug Brown\, Ph.D. \nOver the years Doug has filled roles that range from church pastor to camp director. Currently he serves as Outdoor Leadership professor at Southern Adventist University. Doug is an outdoor expert that has skills and certifications including WMI/NOLS Wilderness First Responder\, ACA Swift Water Rescue\, AMGA Single Pitch Rock Instructor\, and AIARE Avalanche Safety. He and his wife Twila have two adult children.  Life is good! \n  \n\nEXPEDITION OBJECTIVES: \n\nStretch the Mind \nUsing outdoor leadership methods “real world” leadership will be taught and demonstrated. And while in this spectacular wilderness setting you will learn the basics about the Grand Canyon ecology and geology that we will photograph and study. \nElevate the Spirit \nAs we experience the beauty of nature our hearts and thoughts are lifted heavenward.  Through a careful study of the majestic canyons and the delicate flowers we will discover spiritual truths in the “Book of Nature” that will overflow into worship and praise of our Creator God. \nWarm the Heart \nDuring our week together our hearts will bond as we eat together\, tent together\, hike together\, and worship together.  We will become almost like family!  These authentic relationships built on the trail and around camp with other ministry leaders will warm the heart with an unmistakable agape love. \nChallenge the Body \nThere’s nothing like being physically exhausted after a full day of hiking on a trail or paddling on a river.  You feel like you’ve reached your limit and can’t go on… totally spent.  And yet\, it’s at these times that you feel more alive than any day back at the office.  It’s as if your body is screaming and your soul is smiling!  During your time in the backcountry\, you will develop skills that will allow you to traverse this rugged and hostile environment safely. \nRest the Soul \nLet’s face it… you’re tired\, maybe even exhausted\, down to the bottom of your soul.  Now\, imagine a week away from your electronics and schedule in a wilderness setting… and imagine how restful that would be to your soul!  To ensure that you will truly find rest for your soul you will learn skills to keep yourself safe in the rugged environment while at the same time protecting the delicate desert ecosystem through the practice of Leave No Trace backcountry skills. \nExtend the Experience \nThe goal of the Ministry Leadership Expedition is to reboot your life and retool your ministry!  But the real challenge is when you return to the valley where the pressures of life become a reality again.  Transferring knowledge and skills from a wilderness setting to a church setting is not an easy task but will be a major focus of our effort.  And even more importantly to experience “Soul Care” on a regular basis back home. \n\nIf God is calling you to join us then complete the three steps below to register\, complete forms\, and sign-up for our group communication app. \nThis is going to be an unforgetable experience in one of the most iconic landscapes in America.  Don’t miss out! \n\nSTEP 1: REGISTER BY MARCH 27\nREGISTER HERE\n\nSTEP 2: COMPLETE REQUIRED FORMS\nREQUIRED FORMS\n\nSTEP 3: SIGN-UP FOR OUR GROUP APP\nGROUP COMMUNICATION\n\nIf you have any questions or concerns please feel free to text or call me. \nHere’s to Living THE Adventure!  \nMarty Miller\n423.322.8491 \n

SUMMARY:Father-Daughter Spring Wildflower Campout
DESCRIPTION:Dear Family Man\, \nIf you’re a family man who loves the outdoors you won’t want to miss the Father-Daughter Spring Wildflower Campout being held in the Great Smoky Mountains! \nThe Smokies are recognized as an International Biosphere Reserve due to its tremendous biodiversity which is estimated to be around 19\,000 species. And\, it is noted for having some of the best spring wildflower displays found anywhere on the planet and that is one of the primary reasons for visiting the park at this time. \nOur time together will be experiential learning at its best as we identify and photograph wildflowers. From our basecamp we will explore a wide variety of forest communities ranging from the sheltered Cove Hardwood Forest to the mountain-top Spruce-Fir Forest. \nOur Creator God is the author of all that is beautiful so this adventure will be a celebration of His genius and power! The purpose of the weekend is to serve as an opportunity to open the “Book of Nature” and learn to walk closer with God! \nHere’s to Building Better Men… and their Families \nMarty Miller\nTrip Organizer and Naturalist \n\n\nIMPORTANT INFORMATION:\n\nWHO:  Fathers and daughters of all ages\nWHERE:  Elkmont Campground\nWHEN:  April 16-18\, 2021\nCOST:  $150/family\nINCLUDED:  Campsite and programming materials\nBRING:  Your own camping equipment and food\nDEADLINE: Register by April 9\, 2021\nSPACE:  Space is extremely limited so don’t delay!\nDETAILS:  Download Info Packet\nREGISTRATION: Click on link below\n\n\nCOMPLETE DETAILS & REGISTRATION:\n\n\n\nCLICK HERE – INFORMATION PACKET\n\n\nCLICK HERE TO REGISTER\n\n\nSTUDY MATERIALS:\n\n\nCLICK HERE – SPRING WILDFLOWER OVERVIEW\n\n\nCLICK HERE – SPRING WILDFLOWER IDENTIFICATION LIST\n\n\nCLICK HERE – SPRING WILDFLOWER IDENTIFICATION TEST\n\n\nCLICK HERE – SMOKY MOUNTAIN ECOLOGY PRESENTATION

SUMMARY:Alaskan Wilderness Retreat
DESCRIPTION:Caribou Creek\, Talkeetna Mountains\, Alaska\n \nWHO SHOULD ATTEND\nIf you are a man that desires to embrace the rugged Alaskan wilderness and have a deep encounter with God this retreat is for you!  Fathers are encouraged to bring their sons and other young men who are 12 years of age and older.  Please leave your pets at home or they might become part of the food chain! \nWHAT TO EXPECT\nThe weekend retreat is a study in contrast… the best of both worlds.  As men we tend to be extreme.  While we like our guns\, airplanes\, and ATVs\, we also embrace the solitude and quiet of nature. A place where we can hear the still small voice of God. And it is for this purpose that we come to the wilderness\, to seek God in a deeper way\, while in the company of other like-minded men. During the weekend we will meet together every morning and evening for inspirational messages\, testimonies\, and music.  It is our hope and prayer that each man that attends the retreat will experience God and leave a better man! \nTRANSPORTATION\nLogistics require that unless you have your own transportation\, you must attend for the three days. Transportation options include: \nHiking \n\nIf you are planning to travel to camp via one of the two trails that lead to the camp\, please use the buddy system or leave a travel plan with someone for your own safety.  Weather conditions will dictate whether the trail down Alfreds Creek or Squaw Creek will be the best one to take. Contact Fritz Plier @ 376-9179 if you need direction or if you would like to tag along with another group.\nHiking: 13 miles one way on a 4-wheeler trail (shorter/rougher than trail below).  \n\nATV \n\n4-Wheelers: 22 mi/1.5 hr trip on 4-wheeler trail. Don’t have a 4-wheeler? Contact Alaska Toy Rentals 775-1800.  Guides: Fritz Pleier\, 376-9179 (If you need directions or would like to tag along on a guided trip to camp.)\n\nYour Own Plane \n\nIf you are planning to fly in\, please contact Danny Whatley @745-5221 or Joe Koliadko @ 745-2222 for information on the runway.  The airstrip is 850′ long\, becoming shorter the past several years due to washouts and it has bad approaches at each end. This is not the airstrip to practice your newfound bush pilot skills. Please monitor 122.9 and announce your intentions and position when within five miles of the airstrip. \n\nChartered Flight \n\nFly-ins: $300 per person round-trip; $150 per person one-way.  If you need to be flown into camp\, contact Mike Meekin at Meekin’s Air Service well in advance of the retreat to schedule flight into camp. Call 907-745-1626 or check their website at www.meekinsairservice.com. Weight limit for baggage is 50 lbs. for those being flown in.\n\nACCOMMODATIONS\nThe is an old gold mining camp. An outdoor rain fly will be set up for a covered gathering area. Bring your own tent and rain fly (tenting is a necessity!) \nMEALS\nBring your own backpacking food—cooking gear—stove/ cookware. \nACTIVITIES\nGold panning\, hiking\, target shooting\, picture taking. \nCLOTHING\nCome prepared for cool nights and rain; one never knows! \nGUESTS & MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS\nShare your talents—the more the merrier! \nCAMP RULES\n\nLeave dirt bikes and three wheelers at home! Don’t be the object of a rescue going in and out of camp. \nPractice firearm safety at all times. Please no shooting during the Sabbath hours. Use only the designated shooting areas. \nBe respectful of others and enjoy quiet time from 10 pm to 7 am. \nPlease use the designated outhouses. \nPlease clean up after yourself and pack out all trash.
